Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Siembra Labs LLC, referred to as Siembra Labs, handles information through the Ride285 mobile applications for iOS and Android and the Ride285 web application. Ride285 provides live and scheduled transit information for metro Atlanta. It is independently developed and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any transit agency shown in the app.

This policy explains what information Ride285 processes, how it is used and disclosed, how long it is retained, and the choices available to you. When this policy says Ride285 collects information, it means the information is transmitted from your device and retained by Ride285 or a service provider. Some information is processed only on your device and is identified separately below. The canonical policy is also published at siembralabs.com.

1. Information Ride285 Processes

Location information

If you grant permission, Ride285 processes precise or approximate location to:

  • show your position on a map;
  • identify nearby stations, stops, vehicles, and arrivals;
  • calculate distance to transit service; and
  • support the optional iPhone feature that starts a train arrivals Live Activity near selected MARTA stations.

For nearby-stop searches, your device sends latitude, longitude, search radius, and selected transit agency to the Ride285 backend. The backend uses those coordinates to return nearby results. Network and hosting systems may also process the request information described below.

Most nearest-station, nearest-vehicle, and map display calculations are performed on your device. If you enable Nearby Train Station Arrivals on iPhone and grant Always location permission, Apple Core Location monitors the regions around up to 12 MARTA stations you select and may process significant location changes while Ride285 is closed or not in use. Your raw background coordinates remain on your device. Ride285 receives only a selected station identifier when the device detects entry into a monitored station region so the requested Live Activity can start. Ride285 does not request background location permission on Android.

Favorites, settings, and app activity

Ride285 stores preferences and selections on your device, including favorites, default agencies, map settings, language, theme, accessibility choices, widget configuration, Live Activity settings, and onboarding status. The web app also uses limited first-party cookies for language and theme so pages can render with your selected settings.

If diagnostic reporting is enabled in a release build and an error occurs, an error report may include limited interaction context from immediately before the error, such as a selected transit mode, route ID, stop ID, train ID, line, or destination. Ride285 does not use this information for advertising or to build a profile about you.

Notifications and Live Activities

If you enable remote notifications, scheduled Live Activities, or background ride updates, Ride285 may collect:

  • a random installation identifier and a private capability used to control that installation's registration;
  • an Expo push token, Apple Push Notification service token, Firebase Cloud Messaging token, or Apple ActivityKit push token;
  • device platform, locale, and time zone;
  • notification preferences, quiet hours, selected agencies, and the identifiers and labels of eligible favorite routes, stops, or stations;
  • scheduled rail information, including the selected station, days, times, and schedule time zone; and
  • temporary ride or waiting-session information, including agency, mode, trip, vehicle, route, stop, destination, predicted arrival, and Live Activity state.

These records are associated with random device or session identifiers, not with a Ride285 account, name, email address, or advertising identifier.

Diagnostics

In non-development mobile builds, Ride285 may use Sentry when a Sentry configuration is present. Sentry may receive crash and error details, stack traces, app and build versions, operating system and device information, timestamps, and the limited interaction context described above. Ride285 configures Sentry not to send default personally identifiable information and does not enable performance tracing. Diagnostic information is used only to identify and repair errors, improve reliability, and protect Ride285.

Apple, Google, device manufacturers, app stores, and operating systems may independently collect diagnostics or usage information under their own policies. Ride285 is not responsible for information those parties collect as independent controllers and that Siembra Labs does not receive.

Network and technical information

When Ride285 connects to the Ride285 backend or loads web and map resources, servers and infrastructure providers automatically process information needed to deliver and protect the service. This can include IP address, request date and time, request path and query, response status, device or browser type, app version, and security or rate-limit information. A nearby request can include precise coordinates in its query.

Information you choose to send

If you email Siembra Labs for support, privacy assistance, or feedback, we receive your email address, message, and any information you choose to include. Do not send sensitive personal information that is not needed to resolve your request.

Information Ride285 does not request

Ride285 does not offer user accounts and does not ask you to provide a name, postal address, phone number, payment information, contacts, photos, health information, or government identifier. Ride285 does not access the advertising identifier and does not display third-party advertising.

2. How Ride285 Uses Information

Siembra Labs uses information to:

  • provide maps, nearby results, arrivals, routes, schedules, and service alerts;
  • save and apply your settings and favorites;
  • deliver notifications, reminders, and Live Activity updates that you request;
  • operate widgets, Siri Shortcuts, Spotlight results, and device integrations;
  • maintain, troubleshoot, secure, and improve Ride285;
  • prevent abuse, enforce technical limits, and protect the service; and
  • respond to support, privacy, or legal requests.

Ride285 does not use personal information for targeted advertising, cross-app tracking, data brokerage, or automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

3. Location Permission and Control

Location features are optional. Ride285 requests foreground location permission before accessing your location for maps or nearby transit. The web app requests location through your browser when you use a location feature.

On iPhone, Ride285 requests Always location permission only if you choose to enable Nearby Train Station Arrivals. This allows selected station regions to be monitored while the app is closed or not in use. You can disable the feature in Ride285 or change location access in iOS Settings at any time.

On Android, Ride285 uses foreground location permission while you use location-based features. It does not request Android background location permission.

You can deny or revoke location permission in system or browser settings. Ride285 will continue to provide non-location features, but nearby results, map positioning, distance calculations, and automatic station Live Activities may no longer work. Ride285 does not sell location information or use it for advertising.

4. Local Storage and Device Integrations

Most favorites and settings remain in local app storage, browser storage, the Ride285 iOS App Group, or operating-system stores used for widgets, Siri Shortcuts, Spotlight, and Live Activities. This local information is not synchronized to a general cloud account.

Some favorite identifiers and settings leave the device only when needed for a feature you enable, such as favorite service-alert notifications. Apple may process information used by Siri, Spotlight, widgets, and Live Activities under Apple's policies. Google and device manufacturers may process comparable Android system features under their policies.

5. How Information Is Disclosed

Siembra Labs does not sell or rent personal information. We disclose limited information only as needed for the purposes in this policy:

  • Hosting and network providers: to deliver Ride285, secure requests, apply rate limits, and maintain operational logs.
  • Map providers: Apple Maps on iOS, Google Maps on supported Android devices, and CARTO, Esri, and OpenStreetMap contributors for web map content. Map providers may process IP address, device information, map interactions, and location when their services are used.
  • Notification providers: Expo, Apple Push Notification service, ActivityKit, Firebase Cloud Messaging, and relevant operating-system services to register devices and deliver requested notifications or Live Activity updates.
  • Diagnostics provider: Sentry, when enabled, to process the diagnostic information described above.
  • Transit sources: Ride285 retrieves information from transit agencies and data providers. Ride285 does not intentionally send precise location, notification tokens, or favorites to a transit agency merely to retrieve a feed. If you choose an external agency resource, the destination receives your request under its own privacy policy.
  • Legal and safety disclosures: when reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process, protect users or the public, investigate abuse, enforce rights, or protect Ride285 and Siembra Labs.
  • Business transfers: as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality and continued protection of the information.

Service providers that handle information on behalf of Siembra Labs are required to use it only to provide their contracted services and to maintain protection consistent with this policy and applicable Apple and Google platform requirements.

6. Sale, Advertising, and Tracking

Ride285 does not sell personal information, share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, display third-party advertising, or permit third parties to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies for advertising purposes. Ride285 does not combine information collected through the app with third-party data for advertising or data-broker purposes.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Ride285 retains information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide a feature, maintain security and reliability, comply with law, or resolve disputes.

  • Local favorites, settings, and widget data remain until you delete them, clear app or browser storage, or uninstall the app. Operating systems may retain backups according to your device and cloud-backup settings.
  • Active notification registrations remain while enabled and refreshed. Records not refreshed are pruned after 90 days. Disabling notifications requests removal the next time the app synchronizes. Invalid push tokens are removed when a provider reports that they are no longer registered.
  • Scheduled Live Activity registrations remain while enabled. Stale schedules are removed after 90 days without an update. Unregistered or completed schedules and ended Live Activity or riding-session records are generally removed within 7 days.
  • Temporary Android waiting sessions expire automatically and completed records are generally removed within 7 days. Push delivery receipts are deleted after they are processed.
  • Operational and security logs are rotated and ordinarily retained for no more than 90 days, unless longer retention is reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, address a security incident, comply with law, or resolve a dispute.
  • Sentry diagnostic events are generally retained for up to 90 days, subject to the configured Sentry plan and any earlier deletion.
  • Support and privacy correspondence is retained only as long as needed to respond, maintain an appropriate business record, or comply with law.

You can request deletion of information associated with your Ride285 installation by emailing [email protected]. Because Ride285 has no accounts and does not collect your identity with device registrations, we may ask for limited information needed to locate the relevant installation or verify control of it. We will not ask for information that is not reasonably necessary to complete the request.

De-identified or aggregated information that can no longer reasonably be linked to you may be retained for reliability, security, and statistical purposes.

8. Security and International Processing

Ride285 uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network connections, restricted access, token redaction in application logs, and capability checks for supported deletion and update operations. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Siembra Labs and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Those countries may have different data-protection laws from your country. Where required, Siembra Labs relies on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

9. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

You may:

  • decline or revoke location permission in device or browser settings;
  • disable Nearby Train Station Arrivals in Ride285 and revoke Always location access on iPhone;
  • decline notifications, disable notification categories in Ride285, or revoke notification permission in system settings;
  • remove favorites, schedules, Live Activities, and waiting sessions in Ride285;
  • clear locally stored data in Ride285 or your browser, or uninstall the app; and
  • request access to or deletion of information associated with your installation by contacting [email protected].

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or an explanation of how personal information is handled, and to appeal or complain to a data-protection authority. Siembra Labs will honor applicable rights and may take reasonable steps to verify a request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

Ride285 does not offer accounts, so there is no separate Ride285 account to delete.

10. Children's Privacy

Ride285 is a general-audience transit service and is not directed to children under 13. Siembra Labs does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Ride285, contact [email protected] so we can investigate and delete it where required.

11. External Services and Links

Ride285 may link to transit agencies, fare services, trip planners, support channels, and other external websites or apps. When you choose to open an external service, that provider's privacy policy and terms govern its handling of information. Siembra Labs does not control those independent services.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to Ride285, service providers, legal requirements, or data practices. We will update the effective date and publish the revised policy at the public privacy-policy URL linked from Ride285 and its store listings. If a change materially affects how previously collected information is used, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent when required.
